My Own Boss

Hey Friends!

As you can tell the past month has been a light when it comes to content. And I promise I have a real life excuse! Not the lame excuse I give my trainer when I’m too lazy to go to the gym, but an actual project I have been working on that will benefit all of you!

I am officially my own boss.

This past January I opted to not get a side job and focus solely on content creation and travel blogging. Yes, sounds like a dream, but it is honestly the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I pride myself on not taking campaigns for money but when you are looking at your bank account and you have no idea how you are going to pay your rent, suddenly that Fab Fit Fun campaign doesn’t look too cheesy anymore.

But I was determined. I was not going to give up, I put out blog after blog, I shot cool content, continue to build a following, and worked hard at only taking campaigns I truly believed in (Fab Fit Fun boxes were actually really cool, I was a skeptic but you should get at least one, this is not a shambles product plug cause that was back in March).

Now, this story doesn’t exactly end there. I’m not going to lie to you and tell you I’m making a killing blogging and putting pretty pictures on Instagram because I’m absolutely not. I was getting by, but it wasn’t this incredible turn from ramen dinners every night to 5 course meals. But, we’ll get there.

During this journey something really amazingly weird happened. I created an online course called Ten Minute Marketing, it is a complete guide to Instagram, running it as a business and beating the algorithm (bloggers, check it out, it will help!) I initially geared it towards small businesses and I learned one major detail: YA’LL DON’T REALLY WANT TO DO IT YOURSELF. Which is totally fine, I certainly don’t mind. One day, I get a text message from a local business asking if I would help him manage his social media instead of taking the course. I said sure why not! At this point, I had given up on that “no side job” life because you can only eat ramen for so long before you start to get a little soft in the middle, you know what I mean?

Next thing I know, I got another call, and another call and another call until I had 9 Instagrams to manage not including my own.

It happened really quickly but to be honest, I know Instagram like the back of my hand, but running something like this was a little beyond my knowledge.

I was scrolling through Instagram a month and a half ago when I came across this ad. Now, I wish I saved this ad because it was not at all well put together (sorry guys, but it worked so you’re good). But what they said really hit home with me: “If you aren’t willing to work, click out of this video because we don’t want to work with you.” I am not shy of hard work, you guys know that from the 5 jobs i worked just to save for one trip. But they were so honest and a little harsh which was what I needed.

I had no idea what I was doing was called digital marking, I had growth strategies for each business, tailored for them, but I didn’t realize the importance of what I was doing for these local business and how others really needed this help as well.

(side bar: I hope this doesn’t make me sound like I don’t know what I’m doing, I promise I do, just keep reading)

Anyway, I decided to join this team called Agency Hyper Growth (if you have an agency go find them asap because you need them), to help me understand what exactly it is that I have on my plate, how I can help others grow their business and essentially help more businesses by bringing them into this new digital age.

I hit the ground running. Fast forward one month and here I am. I have a full blown digital marketing agency called Digital Wonderland and I am still trying to catch up on how fast everything moved but I am loving it.

I will be honest, working from home is not great for a chatty gal like myself, Jonah gets an earful and I go to lunch with my mom a lot which is nice. Travel is still at the forefront of my mind every day and I will get back on an airplane soon, but for now, I love helping your business obtain goals you thought were way father in the future.

I’m getting off track, ya’ll are probably like “why am I still reading this?” But, wait! There’s more.

I am committed to doing both, running my own agency, while still putting out daily content and three blog posts a week and bringing you products that I know you will love. I don’t care if I don’t sleep, well I kinda do, but I will do my best not to be crabby if I don’t sleep.

I wanted to write this down in a very casual blog post because I wouldn’t be where I am today with out all of my readers and followers. I owe all of this to you and if I could actually hug all of you and meet you and personally thank you I would but as of now, this is the best way I can say thank you.

(que episode of friends where Chandler tells Joey “so you aren’t actually going to ever pay me back” and Joey awkwardly hands him a ticket to his movie premiere)

If you have a business that you are looking to scale, if you are interested in blogging, digital marketing, or just want to chat email me and we will set up a time to go over your goals and make them happen!!

This week you will be getting a Guide to Hurricane Survival, Brunching at Hawkers (yes they have brunch and its amaze-balls) and a really funny story (obviously) about getting of a train from Amsterdam in Munich. It sounds boring but it wasn’t.

Anyway, thats all for me today and I hope your Saturday is kick-ass!

xoxo, B.
