El Bruncho

I would rank Mexican food in the top 10 of my life's greatest passions, that is obviously behind brunch. When two of the top 10 can get together it is, to me, the most glorious thing! I am sure I have mentioned more than a few times how I live in restaurant central and really hate to travel to get that perfect brunch. For you all I would do it...but this time I didn't have too.

El Centro on 54th and 9th is my normal haunt for high class margaritas and fajitas, so when I found out that they had a boozy brunch I literally dropped everything to try it.....by everything I mean binge watching the Jinx. I went with my other Brunch Aficionado and Sidekick, Sarah. We sat down and were immediately greeted with chips and salsa. A plus. We started with a mimosa, your normal brunch size-- small and waiting for you to buy 100. The brunch here is not unlimited-- some drunk kids on youtube in the East Village have really caused a crackdown on All You Can Drink and Power Hours. Here, it is $5 brunch beverages which include Bloody Marys and Mimosas. When it came time shortly thereafter for our second mimosa, the waitress offered us an upgrade to the large; she had me at 3 mimosas in one but it was also a good price at $10 for the large. so how could we refuse.

I ordered the Chicken Chilaquiles: Crispy corn tortillas, chicken, fried eggs and some other various and sundries. Sarah, got the Machacados tacos which had scrambled eggs and beef short ribs. I cannot speak more highly of these two dishes! They were delicious down to the last bite. Overall their selection is Mexican inspired and a fresh look on Mexican Breakfast fare. It is a must visit....and don't forget the jumbo mimosa.
